Ruvane Kurland is back to perform for the third-straight year at First Night on Dec. 31. The singer/musician, who grew up in Council Bluffs but now resides in Ohio, said he loves coming back to Council Bluffs.

“I feel pride in coming back to the place where I learned my instruments,” said Kurland. “I feel pride in the city that helped raise me.”

Kurland is a fan of First Night, who said performing at the event is addictive.

“The First Night experience has been positive,” said Kurland. “It’s always an upbeat, positive experience.”

Kurland’s style of music can be described along the lines of Dave Matthews Band – a mellow acoustic rock. His performances on Dec. 31 will include some acoustic songs, electric guitar and some live looping where Kurland will use a pedal board to create a layered sound.

“I’ll play some brand new pieces that haven’t been on stage yet,” said Kurland.

The fourth annual First Night will be held Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to midnight in downtown Council Bluffs. First Night 2011 will be a unique experience, with local artists, performers and vendors celebrating the area’s culture and history.

Designed to be affordable for families, admission buttons are $10.50 for adults, and children 12 and younger are admitted free. For more information on First Night 2011 or to purchase buttons, go online to www.firstnightcouncilbluffs.org.
